Unit Trusts.
A unit trust is a pool of funds from different investors that is used to buy a large portfolio of assets.
Built around your mandate, not a template.
Smartvest offers one all-equity unit trust fund that invests on the stock market, two money market funds and a balanced fund that invests both on the stock and money markets.
These investments have different pre-set objectives and risk tolerance levels pre-designed to suit the different investor profiles and circumstances.
To further enhance the security of investments, an independent entity — Stanbic Custodial Services — acts as third-party trustee and custodian to these funds.

A unit trust is a pool of funds from different investors that is used to buy a large portfolio of assets. You buy units in the pool instead of buying the assets yourself, and the value of your holding moves with the performance of the underlying investments. Smartvest makes the investment decisions; the assets themselves are held by an independent trustee and custodian.
Each fund has a pre-set objective and risk tolerance level designed for a different investor profile. The High Interest Account (HIG) and Smartvest High Income Fund (SHIF) are money market funds. The Growth & Stability Fund (GSF) is a balanced fund invested across money and equity markets, aiming to match or beat inflation over the long term. The Wealth Fund (WF) is all-equity, invested mainly in blue-chip counters on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. Tell us your objective and time horizon and we will help you choose.
Stanbic Custodial Services acts as third-party trustee and custodian to the funds. Smartvest manages the portfolio while an independent entity safeguards the assets, so the manager and the custodian are never the same party.
Units are priced daily. The bid price is the price at which units are bought back from you and the offer price is the price at which you buy them. The indicative bid and offer table above shows the latest published prices and the date they were struck; prices are indicative and subject to change.
Minimum investment amounts and the fee schedule for each fund are confirmed with you before you invest, so you see the full cost of holding the fund before any money moves. Contact us or start an application and we will send the current schedule for the fund you are interested in.
You redeem by submitting a redemption instruction against your holding. The notice period required and the payment turnaround differ by fund and are confirmed with you before you invest, along with the bank account your proceeds are paid into.
Apply online or download the forms from our Downloads page. You will need a national ID or passport, proof of residence and your bank details, together with the application form for the fund you have chosen — the same verification applies to every investor.
No. Unit trust values move with the markets and returns are not guaranteed; past performance is not indicative of future results. What is fixed is the framework: Smartvest is licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe under licence LR235/2023, and the funds’ assets are held by an independent trustee and custodian.
